Terratec delivered first Raise Boring Machine to Argentina

On Tuesday 14th May, 2013, TERRATEC completed successful the Factory Acceptance Testing of its first Raise Boring Machine (RBM) for the argentinean market.

The ceremony was held in Tasmania, Australia in the presence of Mr Daniel Melendres and Mr Percy Torres of Hochschild Mining PLC of Argentina after 9 months from receipt of order.

The Hochschild Group was founded in 1911 by Mauricio Hochschild. Hochschild Mining PLC has over 50 years operating experience as a leading underground precious metals producer, with high grade silver and gold deposits being it’s main focus. The company has three underground mine sites in southern Peru and one in southern Argentina.

The TR2000 Raise Boring Machine is robustly designed for easy use and high reliability. This machine is capable of boring 2 metre diameter holes up to 500m deep. The design and production was fully compelted by TERRATEC in Australia. 

The nominal hole diameter for this size of machine is 2.0m with a Standard Pilot Hole Diameter of 279mm. The machine has a Pilot Drilling Torque of up to 78,000Nm, Reaming to 175,000Nm, Makeup to 196,000Nm and Breakout to 203,000Nm. The Down Thrust is calculated at 530kN with Up being 3,100kN. The Total Installed Power on the machine is 242kW.

Raise Boring Operations Manager of Hochschild Mining, John Alejos, comented that "the decision towards TERRATEC was taken based on the robust design of the Rig, the Company’s fabrications standards and long history producing Raise Boreres, as well as their after sales service with strong presence in Peru and all the Latin-American Region. All of them essential points for an Equipment going to work in the adverse conditions of the Argentinean Patagonia".

Terratec already has Raise Boring Machines operating in USA, Canada and Mexico. With this current unit going to Argentina, TERRATEC consolidates its position in the Americas Region.
